Parsha Club for the Elderly

Sunday, November 8th will mark the start of a revolutionary way to enhance the assisted-living lifestyle. Wildly successful with children, the Parsha Club which was established at Chabad of Nebraska in 2006 has branched out to offer energizing Parsha classes for the elderly at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home.

Lois Wine, activity director of the Home, explains "Our residents always look forward to educational and interactive programs.  This group promises to be engaging and entertaining."

The club will meet in the afternoon of the second Sunday of every month to study the Parsha, to take pride in Judaism and to learn lessons of how to enhance and enrich their lives Jewishly. The hands on program will cater to all levels of knowledge of the Parsha and skill levels.

“I can’t wait to offer this program to our Blumkin Home friends”, said Mushka Katzman one of the facilitators of this program who is a frequent visitor at the Home.  “The residents have had such full lives which will serve as a colorful backdrop upon which to project the insights of the parsha”, she added.

“The study of Parsha throughout the millennia has been the spiritual compass through which Jews have viewed the events of their world”, explained Shani Katzman, education director at Chabad House.  “It is more than any other topic.  Chassidic masters posited that ‘one must live with the times, the trends- referring to the moral trends set by the Parsha’, “she emphasized.
